She previously served as an Assistant Attorney General in both the Ecology Division and the Fish & Wildlife Division, where she represented Washington State in cases involving natural resource damages, water rights, fisheries issues, and energy facility siting. Educated as a scientist, Mary worked for thirteen years as a salmon harvest and habitat management biologist for the Washington State Department of Fisheries. Mary received her J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Puget Sound (now Seattle University) School of Law.
