Tan • Environmental Litigation • Insurance Coverage • Waste Management & Cleanup Direct phone line: (206) 292-2657 Before entering private practice in 1994, Steve served in the United States Navy as a judge advocate, working as trial defense counsel and as advisory counsel to the U.S. Attorney’s Office on environmental tort claims. Steve has tried dozens of cases to juries and judges in state and federal courts in Washington, Alaska, and California. He handles all types of environmental litigation, administrative proceedings, and alternative dispute resolution. Steve teaches in the University of Washington's Environmental Law and Regulation Certificate Program, lecturing on endangered species protection, regulatory takings, ocean and marine policy, and management of coastal and offshore natural resources. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of PCC Natural Markets and the Board of Directors of the Washington Trails Association. Steve enjoys backpacking and other outdoor activities and is an avid runner, reader, and guitarist. Steve received his B.A. in Biology and Environmental Science from the University of Virginia. He received his J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law, where he was Articles Editor for the University of Colorado Law Review. |
